SMGH HAIRCUT CHALLENGE RAISES $6,310.00 FOR EXPANDING BREAST CANCER SERVICES

Jenna Kroh, an employee at SMGH, began the haircut challenge in October of 2013 in order to raise funds toward breast cancer diagnosis and treatment programs.  Her inspiration in starting this fundraiser was in honour of a special woman whom her family and friends have lost to breast cancer, Helen Giles.

Her challenge gained supporters, including Alexxis (age 11) and Brityn (age 7) Bush, who both joined the challenge in memory of Jason Harmsworth.

All three participants concluded this fundraising challenge on January 3rd, 2014 at noon in the SMGH Auditorium where they all had 8 inches cut off the lengths of their hair.  Kristal Evans, from Soul Mind & Body Spa, generously donated her time by cutting each participants hair to the appropriate length.

Jenna, Alexxis and Brityn chose to donate their cut hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths campaign, which uses donated hair to make wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments.

Collectively, $6, 310 was raised in support of expanding breast cancer services at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital.  The expanding services will increase access to cancer care locally and help to reduce the growing wait time for care within the region.
